Aqua Pilates Class

The class is designed to practice safely in swimming pools. The use of the ledge and pool noodles is used for stability exercises. Warms ups will include artistic expression, grace and elegance of ballet with a holistic approach that goes beyond the traditional notion of physical exercise. Traditional Pilates exercises are adapted to maximize the water resistance. Emphasis is put on adaptability and inclusivity ensuring each individual’s level of fitness and/or mobility…there is a place for everyone.

The class will strive to accomplish the following objectives:

Proper Alignment, Core Strength, Use of Flowing Movement Quality, Low Impact, Modified Exercises, Building Strength, Use of Breath, and Maximizing Flexibility.

This holistic method is designed to empower adult learners. Emphasis on success, volition, value, and enjoyment are core values.

Aquatic exercise benefits: Buoyancy of water decreases weight bearing by 70-80% in chest deep water and by 50% waist deep water. Hydrostatic Pressure of the water can help decrease swelling from chronic issues (ie: arthritis) and may decrease swelling from recent injury, and may help proprioception. Viscosity of water provides resistance during strengthening activities. Freedom to move with decreased pain. Promote relaxation and gentle movement. Fun!
